Evangelion creator reveals his first waifu

The legendary creator of the “Neon Genesis Evangelion“, Hideaki Annorevealed during a special event held at the Shinjuku Piccadilly to commemorate the anniversary of “Space Battleship Yamato,” that his first love was an anime character. At the event, which included screenings of episodes personally selected by Anno, the director could not contain his enthusiasm when talking about Yuki Mori, the heroine of the original anime from more than 5 decades ago.

The director also had the opportunity to share the stage with Yoko Asagami, the character's voice actress in the original series, and could not contain his enthusiasm when he confessed: “I was in love. I looked at any work where Yoko Asagami's name appeared. Yuki Mori was the first character I fell in love with: he was my first love».

On the other hand, Asagami remembered how, back then, voice acting was more of a job to get by than a recognized passion, but he decided to give it his all for his performance as Yuki Mori. Anno was full of praise, praising the naturalness of his performance, especially that of Episode 23. And if you don't know the character, his description writes:

  • At first she was Dr. Sado's nurse, but aboard the Yamato she takes on additional responsibilities such as operating the radar, performing computer calculations, caring for the crew's morale, and searching for food sources on the planets. From the beginning she is attracted to Susumu Kodai, but hides her true feelings. As the only female member of the crew, she is also a frequent victim of fanservice.
  • In the remake, his personality and role changed slightly. Her role as a nurse was replaced by Makoto Harada, so she is now a full-time radar operator. Her personality was refined to be more direct than the classic representation of her.

As if that were not enough, director Hideaki Anno is now not only a fan of “Space Battleship Yamato“, but within Studio Khara, their own company, they are in charge of producing a new film installment of the franchise. According to the original statement, production will begin sometime this year and its story will be different from that of “Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199, 2202, and 3199,” a series of projects that served as a reboot of the original franchise. .

Since that announcement, Anno noted that he would not be the person he is today if he had not known the original anime “Space Battleship Yamato” about 50 years ago. He also expressed his gratitude and respect for the team and cast of the original series, stating that his goal was to continue creating new and interesting audiovisual works so that he could pass on his love for “Space Battleship Yamato” to future generations.
