Frieren and Maomao would already have their consequences assured

Last February 1st, Nippon Televisiona major national television network in Japan, announced financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, registering an increase of 86.8 percent compared to the previous year in the anime marketachieving an impressive 5.04 billion yen in profits.

Sousou no Frieren

Although the figures are impressive and the increase is almost double compared to the previous year, it turns out that the report explains that franchises “Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End)” and “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries)” were a key part of this success by achieving large sales figures in distribution services. In addition, Nippon Television points out that increasing the number of anime productions, the distribution of old projects and distribution abroad were important strategies to achieve these objectives.

While these franchises were key for the year 2023, Nippon Television hopes that projects like “Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)” and “The Fable” become those who maintain this momentum in 2024.

Nevertheless, the fact that important mention is made of “Sousou no Frieren” and “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto” as the great hits that increased Nippon Television’s profits at almost double, it has been taken a hope for the fans. After all, how can we not continue with sequels for these projects being so successful?

  • «I understand the case for Sousou no Frieren, but why is Kusuriya no Hitorigoto so popular abroad?».
  • «At the end of the day and like in any business, the most important thing is profits.».
  • «Foreign distribution has become a vital business for the anime industry».
  • «I will never understand how money moves within the anime industry, weren’t anime products that generated the profits?».
  • «As always, Japan needs the rest of the world to carry out its business».
  • «If I’m not mistaken, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- also increased Nippon Television’s profits, and look no further, it even changed to a better studio for its upcoming second season».
  • «Of course, both projects already have second seasons confirmed with this information».
  • «I see, so Rimuru-sama’s story is also still extremely popular».
  • «The fact that Sousou no Frieren has not lost momentum even when entering a new story arc completely different from the first says a lot about the level of production».
  • «I hope this does not lead to starting to use celebrities to lend their voices in one of the two aforementioned series».
  • «If Sousou no Frieren continues with another two-part second season, it could lead to one of the most spectacular arcs in the manga. The problem would be how long we will have to wait to expect the same level of production.».
