Dragon Ball attracts ridicule on the Internet

Super Dragon Ball Heroes is a promotional anime that is derived from the collectible card video game of the same name. Unlike the main series, Super Dragon Ball Heroes does not follow a coherent, canonical plot. Instead, it focuses on featuring spectacular and exciting battles between characters from different Dragon Ball timelines and universes.

The anime is characterized by its focus on fan service and intense action. You will often see epic showdowns and challenging fights in each episode. Popular characters from the Dragon Ball franchise, both heroes and villains, make appearances in the series, adding an element of surprise and excitement for fans.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes airs in the form of promotional episodes and is featured at live events and arcades in Japan. Due to its lack of continuity with the main Dragon Ball plot, it is considered a non-canonical anime, but has gained a devoted fan base due to its entertaining nature and focus on action and combat.

While Toei Animation used to surprise with good animation for this promotional anime, It turns out that the most recent special was produced in 3DCG animation for the first time in the history of this sub-franchise. And, as expected, the results were catastrophic.

With completely rigid models that seemed taken from a PlayStation 2 video game (or even before), The animation quickly became a trend on social networks, with thousands of Internet users mocking the fate that this series suffered.. However, it should be remembered that director Tadayoshi Yamamuro announced that Super Dragon Ball Heroes “would be on hiatus for a while,” as the animation staff would take an indefinite break. This means that there is a misunderstanding in all of this. This animation is actually part of the video game, but it seems that the staff was proud enough to present it “exclusively.”

The main series may return until the staff working on Dragon Ball Daima are releasedbut we can’t help but read the community’s comments in the face of such a disastrous setback that this franchise had:

  • «Oh my god, why did they use the video game models?».
  • «Damn, this looks like a PlayStation 2 video game! Terrible designs, horrible choreography. I thought Super Dragon Ball Heroes was constantly applauded for its animation, what the hell happened?».
  • «Why are their poses so rigid? Why don’t they have any expression? Why do attacks look like video game animations? Why does Super Saiyan God’s blue color look so flat? Why does the planet have such horrible textures?».
  • «This looks like a bad fan animation and not an official CGI episode».
  • «Wow, the compilation of Dragon Ball FighterZ scenes is nice».
  • «I’m so relieved to have stopped being a Dragon Ball fan before this disaster.».
  • «This is one of the most impressive drops in quality I have ever seen, simply incredible to see».
  • «This CGI animation looks like those SpongeBob episodes they make with AIs».
  • «Looks like something a fan made in their basement.».
  • «Was Rooster Teeth in charge of animating this new episode?».
  • «OMG, this looks like a Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot animation, but mixed with some awful fan-made designs».
  • «Can we go back to traditional animation instead of wanting to continue imitating Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, which, by the way, was a complete failure?».
  • «Oh my god, this is complete garbage. After the children’s anime, I thought this franchise couldn’t fall any lower».
  • «Like when the budget is so low that you have to use the models from the video game».
  • «What the hell were they thinking when they did this?».
