After almost twenty years in serialization, the manga “Vinland Saga”He is getting closer and more to his grand final, and his author, Makoto Yukimura, has already begun to reflect on what this means for him. During an interview at the International Comics Festival of Angulema 2025, the author talked about what he feels at the end of his work and what could come in his career after closing this stage.
Yukimura confessed that the long time that the serialization of “Vinland Saga” has taken is the fault of his work pace: “I spent more than twenty years in this because I work very slowly. I see the end and, to be honest, all I feel is that I will finally be able to rest»He admitted. Interestingly, beyond the satisfaction of developing just as I had in mind, the process has been long and exhausting for him.
And when asked about his future plans, the author was quite sincere about it: «For now, I don't really want to continue working. Maybe I say it because I am tired. I may have a little rest my mentality changed a little”He explained. This has made fans wonder if the author is thinking of a retirement, or perhaps a prolonged suspension of his activities before starting a new work.
However, perhaps thinking that his answer could give what to talk about, the author expanded: «I don't want to get into another series as long as this. As for the theme, I already explored everything I wanted in the historical manga, so I would prefer to return to science fiction. I have an idea, but I still don't know if I will make it short or long, or when I will start working on it»He added.
Previously, the author has already explained in his official Twitter account that the manga “Vinland Saga” is in its final stretch and that there are only a few chapters before their final conclusion. The work is published through the magazine Monthly Afternoon of the editorial Kodansha Since December 2005, although it was also published in the weekly Weekly Shonen Magazine between April and October 2005.
