In Peru they held a 'waifu auction'

If you have been within the fan community in Latin America for a while, you have surely heard about the “Waifus Auctionsa dynamic that takes place within anime and manga conventions that consists of a catwalk of girls doing cosplay and a date with them is auctioned to the highest bidder. In general, These dates obviously do not include physical contact, but rather the winner spends the rest of their time at the convention (or a previously defined time) accompanied by the cosplayer.

However, these types of dynamics generally become a trend on the Internet. Leaving aside what is strange is that a person is auctioned, it is common to see that these types of videos spread quickly due to the pain of others that seeing them generates. The girls in question are asked to dance on stage and answer some questions to charm the spectators, and then the auction in question is held.

Obviously there are denigrating comments towards the physical appearance of many of these girls, something with which we obviously do not agree, but Their lack of charisma on stage is also criticized, denoted mainly because some of them do not even smile towards the audience or did not have any choreography prepared to present.which makes them move in a very disappointing way.

And so we come to what brings us together today, since a series of videos on TikTok of one of these dynamics recently became a trend. This is the OMISOKA 2024 convention, which took place in Peru in December 2024. The video series showed both the girls' auditions and auctions, showing that there was quite a bit of participation, but also many moments that became memes due to the cringe they caused in the audience.

These types of events are increasingly popular, and apparently they are a hallmark of Latin America. Despite the criticism, the figures that the attendees offered for the girls were really high according to what can be heard in the videoproving once again that manga and anime fans are a niche market that should not be ignored.
