Hatsune Miku movie exceeds expectations

As we have previously reported, “Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing” is a new film that includes the participation of Hatsune Miku, the virtual diva of Vocaloid. Some consider this to be the first time Miku has starred in an anime, and this is true considering that most of her previous appearances in an anime have simply been in an incidental role.

Maybe the fact that this is the first time we have Hatsune Miku in a leading role is the reason the moviereleased last weekend in Japan, easily surpassed 300 million yen in revenue through more than 23 million viewers. With this, it achieved first place in average revenue per theater during its first weekend, a true feat!

In fact, even though it is only being screened in 148 movie theaters (a considerably low figure), The film outperformed other major releases at the time, demonstrating the power of the fan base of both the video game “Project Sekai: Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku” as Hatsune Miku herselfwhich is also going through its moment of glory in Fortnite.

In case you didn’t hear about this movie produced by PAWORKSthe synopsis writes:

  • At a CD store, Ichika Hoshino listens to a Miku song she’s never heard before. On the monitor, he sees a “Hatsune Miku” with a shape he has never seen before, and he couldn’t help but say it out loud: “Miku?” Miku is surprised to hear the voice, her eyes meet Ichika’s, but it disappears shortly after.
  • Later, after a live performance on the street, the Miku Ichika saw earlier appears on his smartphone. Miku seems sad and dejected, and when Ichika calmly asks Miku about her story, she tells Ichika that there are people she wants to give her songs to, but no matter how much she sings, her songs don’t reach them.
  • Miku, who saw Ichika sing to the hearts of many people in her live performances, thought that if she learns more about Ichika, she can do the same, and approached Ichika. Ichika smiles at Miku and says, “If that’s okay with me.”

And of course, there was no shortage of community comments:
