Boruto could delay its return until 2028

This week, an anime leaker on Twitter revealed that the anime of “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” has supposedly been delayed for several years. It was previously rumored that the anime would be on hiatus for a few months. However, after almost a year of waiting, it has been revealed that the anime may not return before 2027 or 2028.

The “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” anime began in April 2017 after the end of the “Naruto Shippuden” anime. Since then, the anime released episodes weekly, ending with episode 293 in March 2023. Since then, fans have been patiently waiting for an announcement regarding the anime’s return.

According to a reliable anime leaker on Twitter, “@Worllff,” the Boruto anime has been delayed by Studio Pierrot for a few years:

  • «The return of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has been delayed until 2027, or even 2028. If they change their mind, the series could return sooner but with a lower animation quality. If the idea does not change, there is a chance that we will return to a season format, becoming Pierrot’s biggest project for the universe of this franchise.».

Recently, the managing director of Studio Pierrot, Kiero Itsumirevealed in an interview that The animation studio would focus on producing quality anime with a seasonal format instead of the long-form format with a few “some good episodes.” With that in mind, the managing director revealed that they were completely focused on “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” for the moment, after which they could turn to other titles in their possession to turn them into seasonal anime.

Considering that the “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” manga is a monthly series and does not have enough source material, fans believed that it would take a while before the anime returned. However, with the “@Worllff” leak, fans are now sure that the anime won’t be returning anytime soon. Although one might want to ignore the leak thinking that it could be fake, several fans believe that the leaker is reliable. This is because it has previously leaked accurate information in a similar manner in the past.
