Colombian goes viral after saying she worked at Studio Ghibli

In the last hours, Studio Ghibli It has become a trend on social networks, but not for the reason you think. Everything is heading towards a Colombian woman named Geraldine Fernández Ruizwho assured until the last moment that worked with Studio Ghibli Produced by Hayao Miyazaki’s award-winning film, “Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (The Boy and the Heron)”.

Given the globalization of anime and the need for studios to hire more animation staff, Japan has resorted to hiring foreign talent for its productions. It is increasingly common for users to appear on Twitter stating that they worked on an anime production and showing the cuts (that is, the sequences) in which they participated.

However, Geraldine Fernández Ruiz stated that she had worked with Studio Ghibli and that she had made the incredible amount of “more than 25 thousand frames for the film”, which would be equivalent to 35 minutes of film. From this point on, Internet users began to doubt his story, but the media rushed to cover this news, practically begging him for an interview.

Of course, the Colombians soon boasted with pride that one of them had managed to participate in one of the most prestigious anime studios in Japan and under the tutelage of the renowned director Hayao Miyazaki. In the interviews in which she participated, the woman stated that she “made a large part of the animations in the film” and that she was so recognized within the studio that Hayao Miyazaki himself began to refer to her as “the Colombian.”

Unfortunately for Geraldine, this is not the 80s where you could say anything stupid and there was no Internet to corroborate information. Platforms like IMDb are responsible for listing all the personnel participating in an animated film, and since it has already been released on this side of the pond, the records are even more precise. Thus, Internet users soon discovered that, within the production, there is no one with the name “Geraldine Fernández Ruiz.”

In fact, the production of “Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (The Boy and the Heron)” only has two animators from outside Japan, which denotes Studio Ghibli’s effort to work only with Japanese talent. But many people do not have enough experience on the Internet and began to call everyone who accused Geraldine of telling lies “envious.”

  • «Unless her name has been changed or she has not been credited for some reason, she does not exist in the credits. For reference, the complete list of animators (there are two foreigners, but none match her name)».

But the woman continued with her story and stated that she had attended the Golden Globe Awards gala, and there many discovered her true intentions. In her comment, the woman began to thank a Colombian businessman for having supported her in “her career as an entertainer,” revealing that what she was looking for from the beginning was to raise the reputation of this subject.

In the end, The most compelling evidence came from Julieta Colása Latina entertainer who lives in Japan, and who openly accused “the Colombian” of telling a pack of lies:

  • «This woman has been saying she worked on “The Boy and the Heron.” She says that she personally drew 25 thousand frames for the film from Colombia, and that Miyazaki even knows her name. She calls herself “ILLUSTRATOR” all the time. She has never shown a single illustration. WHAT THE EGGS TO LIE THIS WAY», he wrote on Twitter.
  • And continued: “There are Latin women who have really worked in the anime industry (I am one of them, and I am living in Japan), and they have worked hard at it (I have a bad enough wound), for one day this one appears type of SCAMMER people misinforming everyone».

Animator Sakura Kayama also explained about it:

In fact, they also discovered that all the illustrations and projects in which Geraldine Fernández Ruiz claimed to have participated and boasted on Linkedin and Instagram, she had actually stolen from other illustration accounts. It is certainly a source of pride when a Latino animator claims and offers evidence to prove that he participated in an anime production, an increasingly popular entertainment medium around the world.

Unfortunately, Latin America once again fell from the grace of the world with this shameful performance by “the Colombian” and all the media that made it viral without bothering to verify anything.
