Synopsis of Dorohedoro
The Hole, a dark, decrepit and disorderly district where the strong prey on the weak and death is common, lives up to the name it has been given. A realm separate from law and ethics, it is a testing ground for magic users who master it. As a race that occupies the highest rungs of their society, magic users consider the inhabitants of the Hole no more than insects. Killed, mutilated and turned into experiments without a second thought, the helpless inhabitants of the Hole fill the corridors of the Hole hospital daily. With free access to the septic tank and few challenges to their authority, magic users seem indomitable to most but a few.
Kaiman, more reptile than man, is one of them. He pursues them in a carefree search for answers with only a pair of bayonets and his immunity to magic. Cursed by his appearance and tormented by nightmares, magic users are his only clue to returning his life to normal. His biggest obstacle is his stomach, so his partner Nikaidou, who runs the Hungry Bug restaurant, is his best ally. Set in a hellish world, Dorohedoro achieves a healthy mix of comedy and lightheartedness with death and carnage. Taking many twists and turns as she follows the lives of the Hole’s inhabitants, she weaves a unique world of supernatural origin and gloomy appearance not for the squeamish or the easily disturbed.
