After the final episode broadcast today, the production of a fourth season for the anime adaptation of the manga written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Boichi“Dr. STONE“. The press release revealed that this new season will be titled “Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE” and that, in fact, It will be the last of the anime franchise.
The statement also included comments from the director Shuuhei Matsushita and the producer Shuusuke Katagiri:
- Director: SCIENTIFIC FUTURE IS DIFFERENT THAN SCIENCE FICTION! This is the story of Senku and his friends, who use the power of science to overcome the limits of fiction. The theme of the fourth season, the last of the anime adaptation, is “The Future of Science.” The stage is finally set in the world and the mystery of the petrification of all humanity is seriously addressed. The production team will do everything possible to make the series even more exciting than before, so please continue to support us. We want to portray a “future” with hope for Senku and his friends. Wait for new news.
- Producer: The anime “Dr. STONE,” which started in 2019, will celebrate its fifth anniversary next year. Considering that I have been involved in the project since the manga’s release, I have spent even more years with “Dr.STONE”. We have been able to advance one by one on our tremendous goals, and I have gained many friends who are helping us complete the animation together. I was allowed to participate in the animation from the third season onwards. And I will continue participating in this project. There is no greater joy than this. We still have a long way to go, but like Senku and the others, we will do our best to deliver a series that is even better than before through trial and error.
Inagaki and Boichi began publishing the manga in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump from the publisher Shueisha in March 2017 and finished it in March 2022. The work inspired an anime adaptation of twenty-four episodes produced by the studios TMS Entertainmentunder the direction of Shinya Iino and scripts written by Yuichiro Kidoreleased in July 2019. A second season followed in Winter-2021 (January-March) and a third in Fall-2023 (October-December).
Synopsis of Dr. STONE
After five years of harboring unexpressed feelings, high school student Taiju Ooki is finally ready to confess his love to Yuzuriha Ogawa. However, just as Taiju begins his confession, a blinding green light hits the Earth and petrifies humanity across the globe, turning every human being into stone. Several millennia later, Taiju awakens to find the modern world completely non-existent, as nature has flourished in the years when humanity stood still.
Among a stone world of statues, Taiju encounters another living human being: his science-loving friend Senkuu, who has been active for a few months. Taiju learns that Senkuu has developed a grand plan: to launch the complete rebirth of civilization with science. Taiju’s strength and Senkuu’s brains combine to forge a formidable partnership, and they soon discover a method to revive the petrified. However, Senkuu’s master plan is threatened when his ideologies are challenged by those who awaken. Meanwhile, the reason for humanity’s petrification is unknown.
