Through a press release it was announced that the manga written and illustrated by Iro Aida, Houkago Shounen Hanako-kun (After-School Hanako-kun), will be adapted to the anime in a format of short episodes that will air for four weeks starting next October 12 in Japan.
This manga is a spin-off of the popular franchise of Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun), but it is not the previously announced project. Let’s remember that the anime will have a “reconstruction”, if that is the correct term, the details of which have not yet been announced. This was announced in December 2022, but no further details about it have been revealed to date.
Aida began publishing the manga in the magazine Monthly G Fantasy from the publisher Square Enix in June 2014. The work inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by the studios lercheunder the direction of masaomi andou and scripts written by yasuhiro nakanishireleased in January 2020.
According to reviews from connoisseurs of the original franchise, the anime adaptation ended in the middle of chapter 36. However, it is better to start the manga from the beginning, because the anime skips some chapters/panels and changes the order of them.

- Kazuma Nagatōmo He is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- Aya Higami (HIGH CARD, Gakkou Gurashi!, Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Movie) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Hiroshi Takaki (Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun, Denki-Gai no Honya-san, Dokidoki! Precure, Go! Princess Precure) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.
Houkago Shounen Hanako-kun Synopsis
The ghostly Hanako-kun and his deadly sidekick, Nene Yashiro, are usually very busy solving various supernatural incidents at Kamome Academy, but how do they pass the time when they get a break from it all? Come watch Hanako-kun’s characters play games, get sick, switch genders, and discover world-shaking secrets during their laid-back after-school hours.
