The withdrawal of the author of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War“, Akasaka Aka, after seven years of outstanding career as a manga illustrator last year, seems to have left a deep mark on the guild. The interview was dedicated to the premiere of the new film by Hayao MiyazakiHow Do You Live?“, and when it was mentioned to Fujimoto that this was the work with which the renowned director would retire from the industry, he was also asked to comment on it:

  • “Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?)” is Miyazaki’s new film, which marks the director’s retirement from his career, but do you think there is real retirement for creators, Mr. Fujimoto?
  • Hmm. I’m not sure, but Aka Akasaka, author of the “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” franchise, stated that he would stop drawing to focus only on writing. I thought it was an attractive idea and I would like to do it too (laughs).
  • So do you also want to focus solely on writing stories?
  • Yes, I think it’s more fun to work that way.
  • Conversely, would you like to dedicate yourself only to drawing?
  • I don’t believe it. Of course it’s fun to combine storytelling and drawing, and I think it’s also fun to just draw for other stories. But if I only do drawings, I think it would be unsatisfying for me when I deliver my work to the public.

This statement has sparked shock and speculation among Chainsaw Man fans, who have closely followed the shocking success and creativity of the manga. Fujimoto has stood out in the industry with his distinctive style and captivating storyline, attracting a wide audience and making Chainsaw Man a benchmark in the genre.

In the meantime, Chainsaw Man readers express their wholehearted support for Tatsuki Fujimoto and hope that the passion for his work will prevail, regardless of his future decision. As the news spreads, the discussion about the pressure and challenges manga authors face to maintain a grueling work pace while striving for excellence in their creations is intensifying in the fan community.
