This week, the giant Kadokawa in Japan revealed the list with the ten franchises that generated the most income as part of the financial report for the third quarter of the current fiscal year (which runs from October to December 2023). In this listing, it was confirmed that the “Oshi no Ko” took first position.
Kadokawa participated in this project as a producer (part of the production committee, that is, with a budget). However, it is worth noting that “Oshi no Ko” is not a franchise of this company, but of Shueisha. That is to say, “Oshi no Ko”’s income for Kadokawa does not come from manga sales or anything like that, and it still took the first position in its internal ranking.
On the other hand, other franchises such as “The Eminence in Shadow“, “Bungo Stray Dogs“, “My Happy Marriage” and “Overlord” followed him to the Top 5, respectively. Starting from the sixth position and in order, you can find “Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-“; “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation“; “KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!“; “Sword Art Online” and “Bandorobou (バンどろぼう)“.

Contrary to “Oshi no Ko“, the franchise of “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” took the first position in the ranking of profits from printed publications (that is, sales of novels and mangas), and managed to sneak into Kadokawa’s general profit ranking without considering profits from the anime adaptation.
