A few months ago we reported that a hentai artist specialized in Genshin Impact had been arrested in China and faced a sentence of around ten years in prison. The artist in question is “Shirakami“, who had gained great popularity on Twitter with more than 568,000 followers, and who stood out for his talent in creating explicit art based on the characters of the famous video game.
The content Shirakami produced is reportedly technically illegal in China. However, it does not appear that the arrest was carried out exclusively for the creation of said content, but for having obtained profits through a crowdfunding platform known as Patreon.
According to reports, Shirakami would have registered his account on Patreon and, through this foreign platform, he would obtain financial income related to his controversial art. Under Chinese law, those who produce, duplicate, publish, sell or disseminate pornographic materials for profit could face prison sentences ranging from three years to even life in prison, depending on the severity of the case.
Although the news of his arrest has caused a stir on social networks, generating various speculations about the reasons behind this drastic measure, it seems that the Japanese were not aware of it. Details about this arrest were finally shared for the first time on a popular comment forum, and the Japanese were quick to share their opinions:
- «Would that be the world dominated by the Communist Party?».
- «Is porn not allowed in China?».
- «What is the benefit of banning pornography? Won’t that increase sex offenders?».
- «Do you think something like this will help increase the birth rate? It has no basis».
