A press release from Flag Pictures announced the production of a film adaptation of the novel written by Kazumi Takayama“trapezium“, whose premiere is scheduled for May 10, 2024 in theaters in Japan. Aniplex is in charge of the distribution of the feature film and shared the first promotional video of the project.
The statement also included a message from the author Kazumi Takayama:
- I am filled with feelings of happiness, shame, anxiety and many other feelings because what I had in my head has now become a movie. The novel and the animation production were completely different and difficult, but I was involved in the production for a long period of time with the help of all the staff. I am very excited to finally be able to show you the film, so come to the cinema on May 10 (Friday) 2024.
Kazumi Takayama published the original novel through the magazine Da Vinci from the publisher Kadokawa between 2016 and 2018, so that the publisher later published the compilation volume in November 2018. On the other hand, the publisher itself Kazumi Takayama was a member of the idol group Nogizaka46specifically from the first generation in 2011. He continued as a member of the group until their final appearance in November 2021 at the Tokyo Dome.

- Masahiro Shinohara (Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai, Prison School, Flying Witch) is in charge of directing the feature film at the studios CloverWorksunder the supervision of Kouji Masunari (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Blue Period, Kamichu!).
- Yuuko Kakihara (Orange, Hataraku Saibou!, Tsuki ga Kirei, Asobi Asobase) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- River (Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru, Jigokuraku, Barakamon) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Masaru Yokoyama (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, Horimiya, Fruits Basket Remake, Plastic Memories) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.
Synopsis of Trapezium
The novel portrays the 10 years of a girl who aspires to be an idol. Yuu Higashi, a high school girl, wants to be an idol. To achieve her dream, she imposes four rules on herself: she will not be active on social networks, she will not have a boyfriend, she will not stand out in school and she will make friends with pretty girls from the north, south, east and west.
