Anime fans often find fascination in discovering and visiting real-world locations that served as inspiration for the locations in their favorite series. In this sense, the popular franchise “K-ON!” is no exception. Recently, fans of “K-ON!” have received exciting news: Renovations to the real-life school that appeared in the series have concluded, and it is now fully open to the public again.
The announcement was made through the official Twitter account of the Toyosato Tourism Association on March 30. The iconic Toyosato Elementary School building, which served as the model for the fictional Sakuragaoka Private Girls’ School in the anime “K-ON!”has completed extensive repairs.
- «We apologize for keeping you waiting so long! Now you can see the white school building standing out against the blue sky. The damaged areas inside the school building have been repaired and it is now beautiful! Please come and visit us!», expressed the emotional message.
The original elementary school was built in 1887 and used until the building was replaced in 1936. The second building, known to “K-ON!” fans, was designed by American architect William Morrell Vories and used until 2004, when a third elementary school campus was built and is currently used. After its closure as a school, the second building was reused as a library and public services center.
However, thanks to his appearance in the anime series “K-ON!” In 2008 and 2009, the building was declared a Registered Tangible Cultural Heritage by the national government in 2013. Although it still functions as a library and public services center, it is now open for visits. The Toyosato Tourism homepage posts hours of operation, as well as four photos capturing how the building was used in “K-ON!”
