That time feminists founded Mieruko-chan

If we go until the season Fall-2021 (October-December)definitely one of the most popular series of the moment was “Mieruko-chan“, the anime adaptation of a horror and comedy manga that was not well known until then. The adaptation was carried out by the studios Passionrecognized for their multiple ecchi genre projects, and this was a stamp they definitely put on this project.

Although the story has some incredible designs of monsters and ghosts by the author Tomoki Izumi, the anime adaptation definitely immediately captured attention because, at least once per chapter, Passione was going to include an ecchi scene either of the protagonist Miko Yotsuya or one of her friends. In some scenes she was shown in underwear, and in others completely naked. Every week, each episode of “Mieruko-chan” managed to become trending on social networks, since fans were quick to share screenshots of her most appreciated moments.

Mieruko-chan

Unfortunately, the enormous popularity of “Mieruko-chan” was not enough to secure a second season. (at least to date), especially given how slow updates are to the original manga. But we are not here to lament the fact that “Mieruko-chan” still has no sequel announced, but rather that Japanese fans They recalled that this series was widely criticized by the feminist groupwho soon realized the existence of the series and criticized it for its ecchi scenes:

  • «I see that Mieruko-chan has put a lot of effort into her designs, especially on the female body, but high school girls are girls, right?».
  • «I’ve been feeling a little sad lately. Why couldn’t they be college girls? If you really wanted to do it with high school girls, why didn’t you go for hentai? I think it’s strange that schoolgirls are treated like lolis in this society.».
  • «Mieruko-chan is generally interesting, but there are so many ecchi shots that it makes me cringe. Did it have to be so erotic? The animation is beautiful and the voice acting is sublime. After I became a mother, I started to feel disgusted by these types of elements in anime».
  • «I am very happy that many people think the same. The original manga does not have any erotic scenes like those shown in the anime. It’s a shame that my favorite manga has been turned into this. I’m sure other people agree, adding unnecessary ecchi is terrible».
  • «The horrified expressions on Mieruko-chan aren’t scary at all, what’s scary is the amount of grown men who want to fuck the protagonist. It’s disgusting to see adults drooling over underage high school girls.».
  • «I watched the first episode of Mieruko-chan. The point is that the series focuses heavily on showing the crotches and butts of high school girls, definitely what otakus who want to sleep with minors enjoy.».
  • «I thought Mieruko-chan was a horror anime and started watching it, but it emphasizes high school girls with so much sexuality (showing them taking off their panties, showing their butts with their panties visibly marked, etc.), that I now think it was an anime ecchi from the beginning. Was the original manga like this?».
  • «It’s interesting to see that this anime is a reflection of what male otakus want in an anime. Even though Mieruko-chan was supposed to be a horror anime, the entire experience is ruined by the amount of ecchi it includes.».
  • «When my family and I, horror lovers, started watching Mieruko-chan, I couldn’t help but feel surprised at what I saw. Did the girl take off her panties? What the hell? What kind of people enjoy seeing high school girls being sexualized in this way?».
  • «I was expecting a lot for Mieruko-chan, but then the girl appears taking off her panties and other ecchi shots that I found impossible to see».
  • «I hadn’t been interested in Mieruko-chan until today, but I realized how much sexualization there is in this adaptation and I understood the whole problem. One would want to see a horror story like the original manga, but all the unnecessary ecchi the studio added distracts you from the main goal of scaring you.».
  • «In Mieruko-chan the protagonist has a smartphone, but she wears a 90s-style uniform with a miniskirt and over-the-knee stockings, and above all there is a lot of unnecessary ecchi. The scene where she takes off her panties is totally explicit».
  • «I was waiting for Mieruko-chan on television, but the excessive eroticism included in the adaptation has nothing to do with the original manga, and I can’t forgive that. The scene where she takes off her panties in the bathroom and showing her ass through her pajamas is totally embarrassing».
  • «Mieruko-chan is not what I expected. I was disappointed when I saw the scene where she takes off her panties, the outline of her butt through her pajamas, all those sexualized and unnecessary angles.».
  • «I couldn’t watch anything from Mieruko-chan because she was being too sexualized, now I know what it’s like to be a feminist».
  • «When I read the reviews of Mieruko-chan on Prime Video, I saw all the negative reviews towards the ecchi elements. It seems that, although the manga does have some touches like that, the anime took it to the totally intolerable extreme.».
  • «I wondered if Mieruko-chan was really an ecchi anime, but when I checked, it turns out it was a horror anime. They completely ruined it!».
  • «I wish Mieruko-chan hadn’t focused so much on showing schoolgirl panties, big tits, asses, etc. I don’t think the intention of the story was to stand out with this».
  • «I watched the series because the voice of the protagonist is by Sora Amamiya, but the bathroom scene where she takes off her panties and sits on the toilet was totally to show her in an erotic way and excite the otakus, something totally absent in the original manga. I’m not surprised there’s controversy about it.».
  • «I was really looking forward to the anime adaptation of Mieruko-chan, but when that bathroom scene came with details that are not from the original manga, I really felt disgusted. Why did they need to add those types of elements? Since when was Mieruko-chan an ecchi story?».
