Chainsaw Man director opens his own anime studio

The popular director, producer and animator Ryu Nakayama (most recently directing “Chainsaw Man”) has taken a significant step in his career by founding his own animation studio, “Andraft Inc.“. The new company, established in 2023, seeks to break with existing conventions and create an environment that encourages unrestricted creative expression.

In Nakayama’s words, “Andraft Inc. is a creative unit where we want to establish an environment to face various challenges without being limited by existing concepts. We seek to maintain a constant drive to offer freer expression to a broader audience, enjoying creativity together and truly confronting our own creativity.».

The studio has already made its mark by producing a special video for the collaboration between “Virtual eSports Project” and “Cardfight!! Vanguard“, highlighting the director’s distinctive style.

This news comes after Nakayama’s direction in the first season of “Chainsaw Man“, where his cinematographic approach generated controversy among a sector of fans. Despite the mixed reception, the anime was a financial success. However, rumors emerged that Nakayama would no longer participate in the next animated installment of “Chainsaw Man.”

“Andraft Inc.” raises the question of whether this new chapter in Nakayama’s career will mark a significant change in his creative approach. It is recommended to keep an eye on future developments and how this studio influences the animation scene, as Nakayama continues to challenge established expectations in the industry.
