What does the next arc of Jujutsu Kaisen consist of?

The second season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” and the company TOHO Animation It didn’t take him a second to announce a new sequel for the anime franchise. Although no details were given in this regard, It is evident that this is a third season considering that the “Culling Game Arc“, also known as the “Slaughter Games Arc“.

The “Killing Games” is a type of battle royale that often seems like a purge between sorcerers and non-sorcerers. These sorcerers and non-sorcerers are called “Players” in the games, and players earn points by killing each other. Before delving into the ins and outs of the Killing Games, let’s learn about the origin of this unique and amazing game.

Jujutsu Kaisen

After the Shibuya Incident, a curse is placed on Japan to begin the evolution of humanity. Kenjaku, considered the main architect of the Killing Games, awakens a cursed technique and remotely launches the Free Mutation Technique to activate two types of No-Jujutsu Sorcerers marked by him. The first type includes people who have ingested cursed objects, such as Yuji Itadori. And the second type are people with cursed techniques whose brains were from non-sorcerers, like Junpei Yoshino.

In addition to activating the curse, Kenjaku also breaks the seal on all cursed objects that have been ingested by a vessel. Kenjaku has already marked those chosen to participate in the Slaughter Games. Notably, Kenjaku starting the game is an unprecedented act of Jujutsu Terrorism, but he is confident that all of this will lead to the advent of the Golden Age of Cursed Techniques.

When Megumi Fushiguro learns that her sister has been forced to take part in the Killing Games, she asks Itadori for help. Fushiguro forms a team of allies (Itadori, Fushiguro, Yuta, Maki, Choso and Yuki) and contacts Master Tengen to learn more about the game. They eventually meet with Master Tengen, who tells them that Kenjaku’s goal is to execute the forced evolution of all humans throughout Japan. However, he lacks the amount of cursed energy necessary to carry out his plan. Kenjaku then chooses to merge humanity and if he succeeds, he would create creatures much more powerful than the Jujutsu sorcerers.

Master Tengen goes on to explain the Killing Games. He reveals that the cursed energy of the players and the barriers where the battles take place is used for a ritual that prepares the humans for their union with Master Tengen. To fulfill the ritual, Kenjaku has made some binding vows. One of the votes is that he is not the master of the game, and this seems like an important detail because if someone kills Kenjaku, the game will continue until all players die or refuse to participate.

At the beginning, there are eight original rules in the Killing Games:

  • 1. Once a player has awakened his cursed technique, he will have no choice but to declare his participation in the Slaughter Games in a colony of his choice within 19 days. This includes players awakened by Kenjaku at midnight on October 31. And Tsumiki Fushiguro (Megumi’s sister) will have until November 19 to announce his participation.
  • 2. Any player who violates the first rule will be subject to removal of the cursed technique. If the cursed technique is removed, the player will die. However, these two rules won’t really work for non-Jujutsu spellcasters.
  • 3. Non-players who enter a colony will automatically become players and will be considered to have declared their participation in the game. However, civilians who become trapped inside a barrier at the beginning of the game will be given the opportunity to escape safely.
  • 4. Players score points in the sacrifice game by killing other players.
  • 5. Points are determined by the game master and are indicative of the value of a participant’s life. Sorcerers are worth five points, while non-sorcerers are only worth one point each.
  • 6. Excluding the value of a player’s own life, participants can use 100 points in exchange for adding a new rule to the Sacrifice Game.
  • 7. Taking into account the previous rule, the game master has to accept any new rule unless it has a lasting effect on the game.
  • 8. If a participant’s score remains the same for 19 days, that player will have their cursed technique removed.

This arc, in fact, is still in development in the manga (encompasses all other arcs that follow the Shibuya Incident), which which explains the first paragraph: it is evident that the sequel is a third season. It only remains then that MAPPA announce when it will be released, will it be in 2024 for a new wave of complaints about over-exploitation and terrible production schedules?
