Argentina is just one day away from holding its presidential elections to choose the person who will occupy the presidential chair for the next four years. The electoral process in Argentina is perhaps different from the rest of Latin America, precisely due to the fact that elections are held more than once. The first ones are held in August of this year to determine the candidatures for which they will be held this month. However, the Constitution of that country indicates that if no candidate reaches 45 percent of the votes or more than ten points of difference if it exceeds 40 percent, then another election will be held in November.
The southernmost country in all of America is not going through a favorable situation. With an economic crisis that began in 2018 and has continued to date, the inflationary context has made Argentina stand out in a negative way for years (some even create virtual accounts to buy much cheaper video games there).
Anyway, having the context, it’s finally time to start talking about what brings us together today. Although this site does not focus on politics, we cannot help but mention it when it engages with the otaku community in Latin America. That’s what he’s apparently done. Javier Mileione of the candidates for the presidency of Argentina and perhaps the one most heard about in other Spanish-speaking countries.
Leaving aside her political ideology, Milei (or rather, his political campaign team) seems to have placed emphasis on getting the “otaku vote.” The most recent was when was directly related to the franchise Chainsaw Mansomething that he did not even generate himself, but that the opposition itself in Argentina ventured to compare it with Pochita, causing a new social phenomenon.
He was even present at the campaign closing ceremony on October 19:
Considering the great popularity of the Chainsaw Man franchise, it was evident that relating it to the most popular candidate in Argentina was going to become an immediate media boom. However, this was not the first time that the otaku community had become involved with politics, specifically Milei himself.
The politician and economist had previously become a trend by appearing at an otaku event in Argentina with a cosplay of a character of his invention, the “God Emperor Anarchocapitalist“. This happened in 2019, four years ago, but since then his name was already being heard on social networks.
Anyway, this article is not to tell you to go to the polls and vote for this candidate.but to show that the otaku community is becoming increasingly larger in Latin America and, consequently, becomes a sector of interest for any politician. If this ends up working for Milei, do not doubt that other politicians or political candidates in your country will begin to include otaku culture in their campaigns.
