Hero Rance returns thanks to a recent cameo

The franchise “Rance” is a set of adult role-playing video games that has been in development for several decades. The saga began in 1989 with the release of the game “Rance: The Quest for Hikari” for the Japanese computer platform PC-8801. Since its inception, the series has released numerous installments, including main games and spin-offs, which have been available on various platforms, such as PC and consoles.

Rance

The most distinctive feature of the “Rance” franchise is its unique style that combines elements of adventure, strategy and adult content. The protagonist, Rance, is an iconic character known for his irreverent attitude and kinky antics, making him an unusual protagonist in the adult games industry.

Although the “Rance” series games are of Japanese origin and were initially limited to the Japanese market, some titles have gained recognition in the Western gaming community due to their unusual gameplay and humor. The franchise has influenced the way adult games are approached in Japan by introducing elements of comedy and parody to a genre that often focuses on the erotic.

But why are we talking about this today? Well, it turns out that the protagonist had a “cameo”, so to speak, in the most recent episode of the anime 16bit Sensation: Another Layer. This series stars Konoha Akisato, an illustrator who is transported to 1992, the golden age of bishojo video games.

At the close of the third episode, a special illustration made by the artist was shown Orion (織音)where drew the popular protagonist Rance accompanying the protagonist Konoha. The illustration, in fact, is a reference to the cover of the video game Rance IV: The Legacy of the Sectreleased in 1993 in Japan.

Rance

And of course, the participation of the “hero that everyone wants to become” or the “fucking hero” did not go unnoticed by Internet users:

  • «The fact that Rance is here means that all the girls in this anime will be desecrated».
  • «This is too good, and I know it will get better».
  • «Oh wow, it’s been a long time since I was excited by the illustrations at the end of an anime episode».
  • «It’s a lost art. Rance hasn’t had a new video game for about five years.».
  • «If you zoom in on the illustration, you can see that it is stipple art and that only sixteen colors were used. It’s amazing, I can’t believe they achieved something like this.».
  • «From the content of the third episode, I didn’t expect Rance to appear on the finale card. Come to think of it, both Rance and Konoha have the left arm as the dominant one.».
  • «No! Get away from there Konoha! You have little time left before you are desecrated!».
  • «At first glance one cannot realize that it is dot art.».
