In December 2022 the fans of Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) were impressed with something they didn’t expect: the announcement of a new anime series. As we previously reported, the Aniplex Online Fest event will be back on September 10 with a considerable amount of announcements scheduled. One block is set for the Blue Exorcist franchise, but it is listed as Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga. Let’s remember that the second season of Blue Exorcist adapted even the “Arc of the Impure King”, so the “Terror of the Kraken Arc” and the “Academy Festival Arc” would still be pending, which add up to a total of fifteen chapters of the manga. . Will a long-term adaptation (more than twenty episodes) be planned then? We will have to wait for the event to see if more official information will finally be revealed to us.
For his part, Kato began publishing the manga in the magazine Jump SQ from the publisher Shueisha in April 2009. The work inspired a twenty-five episode anime adaptation produced by the studios A-1 Pictures under the direction of tensai okamura and scripts written by Ryouta Yamaguchireleased in April 2011. A second season titled as Ao no Exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen (Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga) premiered in January 2017 with a total of twelve episodes.
Synopsis for Blue Exorcist
Humans and demons are two sides of the same coin, just as Assiah and Gehenna are, their respective worlds. The only way to travel between the two worlds is through a possession. However, Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, has been unable to find a vessel worth possessing and consequently remains locked in his world. In a desperate move to conquer Assiah, he commands his son, with the purpose that in the future he will become a worthy vessel capable of becoming the king of demons.
The story follows Rin Okumura, who seems to be an ordinary boy, until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world is turned upside down when he discovers that he is the son of Satan and that his father is looking for him to return to finally conquer Assiah together.
