Oshi no Ko becomes real: An idol confesses that she has two children

The entertainment industry in Japan was rocked by a shocking revelation made by an idol during a talk show. Nagi Fujisaki23 years old, a member of an idol duo called “Saishu Mirai Shōjo” along with her partner Midori Ono, she was a guest on the show SUNDAY JAPAN last August 20. During the program the subject of sleeping problems was touched on, and after receiving problems from an expert, the host Yuji Tanaka he asked Fujisaki for some opinion on the matter. It was here that the idol dropped the media bombshell:

  • I’m actually a single mom“, revealed. “It’s the first time I’ve brought it up, so I imagine the people watching and my fans must be in shock right now.“. When she insisted more, Fujisaki revealed that he has two children: a three-year-old and a one-year-old..

Later, the idol herself shared an update on her official Instagram accountwhere he offered a fuller statement:

  • I am a single motherhe proclaimed. He also revealed that he considered keeping the existence of his children a secret. “However, there has been a lot of speculation, and I have been the victim of harassment, anonymous accounts mentioning my children’s names and photos taken on the sly when we went out. I felt that I had reached the limit of secrecy. I was also afraid that false information would gradually spread, so I decided to announce it myself before that happened.“. At the end of his post, Fujisaki exclaimed: “It feels good to say it with my own lips!“.

Quickly many fans both in Japan and abroad pointed out that the story of this idol resembles the plot of the franchise of “Oshi no Ko“. The main plotline detonates when idol Ai Hoshino suspends her activities to give birth to twins, whom she keeps secret for the rest of her show run. After Fujisaki’s announcement, the term “リアル推しの子 (Real Oshi no Ko)” immediately trended.

However, this is not the first time that “Oshi no Ko” has been linked to real-life events. In one of the plot arcs, the author aka akasaka described a case of Internet harassment by fans towards Akane Kurokawa, leading her to commit suicide. The story was clearly based on the tragedy of the fighter Hana Kimurawho committed suicide after receiving incessant harassment on the Internet following an incident within the reality show “Terrace House“.

The most important issue is not that people compare the story of idol Nagi Fujisaki with that of “Oshi no Ko“but they really hope the coincidences end there. Let’s remember that, as normal, idols are not allowed to have romantic relationships and, if they do, they must keep them hidden. Those who have dared to break this rule have found themselves in big trouble not only with their record companies, but with the fans themselves who consider themselves “betrayed” because they believe that “idols are their girlfriends.”

For now, Nagi Fujisaki’s Instagram account contains messages of support from characters who encourage her and promise to support her, as well as messages from some men who sign up to support her and her two children. The comment forums have been filled with positive comments towards the idol’s situation, but will the entire conglomerate of fans really accept this revelation just like that? Will there be someone who feels “betrayed” and decides to do something about it? Connoisseurs of “Oshi no Ko” then know why the social media community hopes that “the similarities remain only in the fact that the idol kept her children a secret”, but nothing more.
