For those who have been following the anime industry for at least ten years, when asked about one of the biggest disappointments the industry has had, they definitely Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins) is one of the immediate answers. Especially in its later seasons, the anime has been the subject of controversy and criticism for its animation at several of its key moments.
One of the main reasons for criticism of anime animation was the change in the animation studio throughout the different seasons. The first and second seasons were animated by the studio. A-1 Pictureswhile the third season, “Nanatsu no Taizai: Kamigami no Gekirin” (The Seven Deadly Sins: Wrath of the Gods), was produced by Studio DEEN In collaboration with Marvy Jack (the latter being the “real” study in charge).
The animation issues in the third season became noticeable from the start, as fans noted a significant drop in the overall animation quality compared to previous seasons. Characters were often blown out of proportion, movement was stiff, and action scenes, which are a big part of anime, lacked fluidity and emotion.
In addition to the visual aspect, there was also criticism regarding the pacing of the narrative and the adaptation of the manga content from the third season onwards. Many fans felt that the story was sped up too fast and important moments from the manga were omitted or altered, negatively affecting the overall experience of the series.
Unfortunately, the animation quality in the third season couldn’t keep up even in the most important moments. During the fight between Escanor and Meliodas, which was a key and highly-anticipated moment in the story, many viewers noted that the animation was completely horrifying. Problems included jerky movement scenes, character imbalances, and a general lack of fluidity in the action.
This was what inspired many animators on the Internet to try to “fix the scene” and present their own versions of the expected combat between the two most powerful entities in the franchise. One of them was “Raysther Animations“, who wowed fans with a look at his remaster project:
“It will be a whole reimagining based on the manga material“Said the channel user in January 2020, promising that he would upload a more detailed look in the “coming months”. This small glimpse was enough to make fans in Latin America go crazy waiting for the update, especially since the episode in question had aired just a few days before.
«I already leave your PayPal in the video description and in the pinned comment for us to donate to you, batteries guys»; «I can’t stop playing this go ahead, you are a god!»; «If you do it, you will not only do well with the fans, you will do well in the world and everyone will remember it as the day a young man faced a company in what they do best and beat them.»; «Tutorial on how to humiliate a company»; were some of the comments from viewers.
And they only had to wait a few months, so that “Raysther Animations” posted what he called the “true trailer”, showing thirty seconds of animation that drove all Nanatsu no Taizai fans crazy:
It was an extreme surprise and the fans couldn’t help but hide their happiness. The video became a trend and they began to share the channel’s user payment account, so that they could send donations and support him in his animation process. Little did fans know that they were witnessing what is now known as the “biggest selling smoke ever,” as three years have passed with no updates and the user was never seen again.
And it was clear that the feedback was going to be completely different now, years after the most recent update was released:
- «The most epic con in anime».
- «I think the project was so good that the guy died watching it».
- «It takes three years, and to make the short it only took a couple of months. How does it take you three years, pulling four, to finish the animation? I was one of those who were hopeful, but it seems that it was pure and simple bait».
- «I regret donating, dammit. I don’t know if it would be a scam, but I feel cheated».
- «Well, I say that something must have happened to him, after all, it shows that he put effort into it. I even uploaded trailers and sketches, but it’s been over three years since the last update. I hope to see her return one day».
- «He stole all the donations, what a motherfucker».
- «Nah, what a disappointment that the project was never finished».
- «Maybe you forgot the account email or password».
- «I say that the creator is already with Mama Coco».
- «Top 7: Biggest scams in the world of anime».
- «I can’t believe that there are people who are still waiting for this, most likely he died from COVID-19 or something like that».
- «Welcome to Doc Tops, these are the five biggest scammers in history. Number 1:».
- «Can you imagine that he got COVID or something like that and something happened? Hopefully not, but it literally doesn’t give any sign».
And yes, considering that the user never formally informed that he would leave the project, there is always the possibility that one day, by surprise, the finished project will be uploaded. But until then Nanatsu no Taizai fans will continue to classify this as the biggest scam in the history of anime in Latin America.
