The editorial department of the magazine PASH! in Japan conducted a survey among its readers asking them for their favorite anime series released during the first half of the year 2023. This evidently includes the premieres of the seasons of Winter-2023 (January-March) and Spring-2023 (April-June)as Oshi no Ko.
In just a blink of an eye, we have already reached almost halfway through the year 2023, and it seems that this year is not without interesting premieres within the anime industry. For this reason, the magazine decided to conduct this survey between May 16 and 22 of this year only among young people, with the aim of finding out what is the most popular this year among the so-called “Generation Z”. What were the final results?
1. Oshi no Ko
The undisputed first place was the anime adaptation of Oshi no Kobased on a popular manga by Shueisha. Not only the story, but also the quality of the animation and the selected music themes have been praised by the young fans. Akasaka Aka and Mengo Yokoyari join forces to develop a story that betrays the viewer in a good way, and from which you cannot take your eyes off. Along with the beautiful artwork, fragility and exasperation not found in the original story can be directly conveyed as animation.
2. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato-hen
After the incredible success of the movie Kimetsu no Yaibathe series has continued with incredible acceptance among fans. The quality of the animation continues to be one of the strongest points of the franchise, which has become one of the most popular stories today, something surprising considering that the original manga has already ended.
3. Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown
Being the original story a unique work on gangs and time travel, in addition to having a successful series of live-action films, the franchise of Tokyo Revengers continues to be a great success. Despite the fact that the last few story arcs were controversial due to its development, it seems that the anime adaptation has not quite covered these stories yet, so it is understandable why young viewers still have it placed at the top.
4. My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999
The long-awaited anime adaptation of a work that was already popular since its publication. A story about video games and romance, which tells of the love affair between a university student and a high school boy whom she met in an online video game. The young viewers have been delighted with the story and the participation of the voice actor Kouki Uchiyama, recognized for other works such as Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen, so great things are expected for this project.
5. Mashle: Magic and Muscles
A popular work that was already popular from its original manga. The story takes place in a world full of magic where the protagonist cannot use it, so he uses his developed and trained muscles to make up for this deficiency, having funny moments in the process. There is a huge gulf between the tense battles and the surreal situations starring the protagonist, so young viewers can’t help but let out an involuntary laugh.
