Author of Kanojo, Okarishimasu now in new controversy

The situation in the manga industry in Japan remains delicate after the apparent suicide of Hinako Ashiharathe author of the popular manga “Sexy Tanaka-san“. After criticizing the live-action series adaptation of this series, specifically against the poor quality of the script that did not do justice to the original storyAshihara caused the adaptation’s screenwriter, Tomoko Aizawabegan to be criticized by the followers of the work.

In Ashihara’s words, the screenwriter wrote a script that deviated too much from the original story, so the author herself had to intervene to write the last two episodes. After the series will end in December 2023, the author took to social media to explain the situation, without naming the screenwriter.

However, it only took a quick investigation for fans to know who was in charge of the script, and they began to attack Aizawa on social media as a “destroyer of works.” This made Ashihara very worried and he even made several posts apologizing and pointing out that “the situation got out of hand.” Eventually, to the sadness of her followers, the author was found dead and police claim to have found a suicide note in her home.

But you probably already knew all of the above because we covered the news at the time, why are we talking about this again? Well it turns out that Reiji Miyajimaauthor of “Kanojo, Okarishimasu (Rent A Girlfriend)”, perhaps among his delusions of daydreaming about “his girlfriend Chizuru Mizuhara”, He couldn’t find a better time than now to share an illustration and “thank all the staff involved in the live-action a few years ago.”

As you surely know, “Kanojo, Okarishimasu” also had a live-action series adaptation in 2022 that had moderate success (as always, plagued by bad acting). And seeing the unfortunate situation that the now deceased Hinako Ashihara went through, it seems that Miyajima saw fit to boast that “his live-action of her did turn out well”:

  • «I drew this illustration because I suddenly wanted to express my gratitude. There is sad news, but I can only be grateful that everyone knows about my work through any means possible, and that they are excited about it! Thank you for your continued support», he wrote on Twitter.

And of course, his lack of empathy did not go unnoticed on social networks:

  • «Even the author of Golden Kamuy is grateful for the good work they did in the live-action, but he knows that, for the moment, he must remain silent».
  • «The guy is crazy, did he really think it was a good time to say his nonsense?».
  • «He himself knows that it wasn’t the best time, but he will do whatever it takes to make his manga moderately relevant.».
  • «If it is a contemporary romantic comedy manga, it would be easy to make a live-action version».
  • «As always, Kanojo, Okarishimasu can never compare to the father of romantic comedies, Nisekoi».
  • «Kanojo’s live-action Okarishimasu was also pitiful, it’s just that Miyajima-sensei doesn’t have the balls to admit it».
  • «Oh yes, talk about that live-action where they imposed a Johnny & Associates idol as the protagonist, right?».
  • «The guy is only interested in money, obviously he will let his work be destroyed to do more live-action».
  • «Was it really something he had to say right now?».
  • «Nor is it that Kanojo, Okarishimasu is a complex work. It was more difficult to do it wrong than right.».
  • «It is true that there are scriptwriters who want to change and make live-action dramas, and some of them have been successful because of it. I don’t deny it, and the problem is that there are authors whose works have been altered or changed in a way that they don’t want.».
  • «But it can’t be that you publish something like that now, as if you were defending a fashion that disrespects the original creator.».
  • «It’s just that the original author’s request was not heeded, but then people start saying that the media mix as a whole is to blame, or that those who write scripts from the original work are incompetent, and the conversation changes.».
  • «Disgusting, just horrible. I understand that there are many authors like that. But it is not the right time to say this… It is even worse because the post was made with the understanding that “there is sad news”».
  • «The author Hinako Ashihara had a problem with the production of the live-action and died a few days later, but thanks to the live-action industry! The guy is a complete failure as an author and as a human being.».
  • «I don’t know why this counts at this point. The author is not a good person… And it is the typical failed live-action adaptation ruined by a talentless idol. The original manga is a repetition of the same».
